We settled on a rouge like PONG game, and JJ whipped together an initial backstory:

P.O.N.G. Planetary Ordinance Negation Guild. A global military division dedicated to protecting the Earth from orbital bombardment by an alien race (Bushnenbad?). The main fighting force of P.O.N.G. are it's pilots. These brave souls go through vigorous training to cultivate heightened abilities which they use to operate their Protective Artillery Defense Ligers, or P.A.D.L.s
