This view should only have:

  1. Title - Example: OpenSpec Feature Branching Graph - Step 3 Explore
    2."Show thinking" checkbox
  2. "Detail" button - consider renaming to be more descriptive, it seems like it gives specific details about the current step.
  3. "Redo" button
  4. Abandon run button - make it the same size as the other two buttons, and give it an "X" icon inside the button as well as the text.

Shipped as the OpenSpec change stage-header-trim (archived as openspec/changes/archive/2026-09-14-stage-header-trim/; stage-header is a new main spec). Commit d3870e7.

What changed — the header above the agent view is now one line: a title and its controls.

the trimmed header

  • The title reads #N <run name> — Step <n> <label>, or just the run with no step open.
  • Gone: the ▸ PHASE ▸ n/N ▸ step kind breadcrumb, the Thinking · 4m 38s · 15 tool calls · last: … sentence, and the token meter. The spine's running row already shows all three.
  • Detail is now Step details. Abandon run is a normal button with a ✕, the same height as Step details and Redo, and sits after Redo instead of beside the title.
  • Conditional controls stay: Review, Accept anyway on a failed step, and the running-subagent count on the title line.

Also fixed while testing: if you clicked a step before the run detail finished loading and then pressed Escape, the landing auto-select fired late and jumped the pane to the gate. A click made before load now counts as a choice.

Tested: e2e/stage-header.spec.ts against the fake osfd. It checks the title, that the removed parts are gone, that all four controls are present and equal height, the run-only title, and Accept anyway on a failed step; it passed 24/24 on repeat. layout-stability.spec.ts now watches the spine row's live line. tsc, vitest 332, and the full Playwright suite (21 passed, 3 skipped for live osfd) all pass.
